Welcome to Red Door Services
CLINIC HOURS AND INFO
The clinic stops accepting walk-in patients once maximum patient volume has been reached for the day. This means that we may stop taking patients before our listed closing time. Please arrive early on the day you visit us to reduce wait time and increase the likelihood of being seen.
In addition to walk-in visits, appointments are available daily. Please call us at 612.543.5555 to schedule an appointment. We are not able to schedule appointments online or for the same day. You will need an appointment for pregnancy prevention services and Ryan White Early Intervention services.
Red Door Services (formerly known as the Red Door Clinic) are part of the Hennepin County Public Health Clinic, located on the 4th Floor of the Hennepin County Health Services Building. Since 1970, the staff at our clinic have been providing confidential, non-judgmental and professional sexual health care to our community. We are the largest HIV/STD testing site in Minnesota, providing testing, treatment and health education around STDs, Ryan White HIV medical care for the uninsured, as well as pregnancy prevention and targeted HIV/STD programming through the CAPS Program and HIM Program.
SEXUAL HEALTH SERVICES
- Confidential Rapid HIV testing with same-day results.
- Testing for gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis and vaginal infections.
- Testing for genital warts (HPV) and herpes only if there are symptoms present.
- Dermatology treatment for genital warts or molluscum contagiosum.
- Vaccinations for Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B and HPV for people at risk.
- Safer sex and pregnancy prevention materials for women up to age 21.
The Hennepin County Public Health Clinic is not a free clinic but service is not dependent on the ability to pay. Using your insurance or paying for your visit will help ensure that we can continue providing high quality, low cost services to our clients. We accept all forms of health insurance. If you do not have insurance, or choose not to use your insurance, you will be asked to pay something at the time of your visit. We do not sent bills to your home so the clinic visit is the only opportunity for you to pay for your care.
We accept cash, checks, Visa and MasterCard.
Through funding made available by the Minnesota Department of Health and the Ryan White Care Act, our clinic is able to offer two different prevention programs specific to some of the populations we serve.
CAPS Program :: Care Access and Prevention Services
A sexual health and care access program for newly diagnosed HIV+ persons and those at high risk for HIV
HIM Program :: Health Interventions for Men
A sexual health program for gay and bisexual men
NEW! ONLINE PARTNER NOTIFICATION TOOL
The Internet has increasingly become a place for people to meet sex partners in Minnesota. Internet hookups have also facilitated a number of new STD infections in the state. As a result, the HIM Program has partnered with an online software company to offer a new way for people to notify partners of possible exposures to HIV and other STDs.
This online partner notification service is called InSPOT, and is an online service available to the entire state of Minnesota. InSPOT can be used to send an E-card to your sex partners notifying them that they may have been exposed to a particular STD and forwards them on to the InSPOT website for more information on the STD in question and clinics in their area to get tested and treated.
E-cards can be sent anonymously or with your e-mail included. The service is completely anonymous and your identifying information is not collected - only zip codes and very basic demographics are collected for funding purposes.
The Red Door staff primarily consists of certified Nurse Practitioners. Some services are provided by Registered Nurses. Our medical director for HIV and STD services is an Infectious Disease Doctor. Pregnancy prevention services are provided in consultation with a gynecologist. Prevention program staff are Community Health Specialists trained and certified to do HIV and Syphilis testing and sexual health counseling.
As part of Hennepin County Public Health Clinic’s mission to improve the health of the community and reduce infectious disease, we are pleased to announce that our current services will include syringe disposal services, allowing individuals to safely discard of their used syringes. In order to keep this service accessible to everyone, each of our public bathrooms has a disposal receptacle for small quantities of sharps and syringes. Staff are also available to assist with larger quantities, please check in at the front desk. While we are not offering exchange services, we will provide referrals to syringe exchange programs for any client who is interested.
The Hennepin County Public Health Clinic is located on the fourth floor of the Health Services Building at 525 Portland Ave in downtown Minneapolis (near the Metrodome, on the corner of 6th Street and Portland Ave).
Many of the clinical staff speak Spanish and can provide free interpretation services. For all other languages, telephone interpretation is provided free of charge. Appointments are made for visits that require a American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter. To set an appointment for a visit requiring an ASL interpreter, please call the clinic at 612.348.4729 TTY one week prior to the date that you would like to be seen.
